Healing Peter’s Mother-In-Law – Summary

After Jesus cast out the unclean spirit in the Synagogue, he was invited into Peter’s house. There, he found Peter’s Mother-In-Law in bed with a fever. Jesus immediately went to her bedside. He took her by the hand, lifted her up, and she was healed. None of the three Gospel accounts record any words spoken by Jesus. But Luke does write that Jesus rebuked the fever. They all agree that the Peter’s Mother-In-Law immediately began serving them.

This is such a brief miracle that many people simply overlook it and move on to the more exciting miracles of Jesus. But as in every verse of the Bible, there is revelation waiting for the diligent.

I like how the King James Version translates the verse to say that Peter’s Mother-In-Law was “sick of a fever.” I think far too many people are quite content to “suffer for the Lord” and endure pain and suffering needlessly. This is a huge mistake. Jesus suffered spiritually and physically to provide healing and forgiveness for everyone – By his stripes, you are healed! (Isaiah 53:4-5, Matthew 8:17, 1 Peter 2:24)

You need to get “sick of being sick” and demand your rights as child of God. If you don’t know that healing belongs to Believers, open the Bible and study the healing verses for yourself. Affirm them, meditate on them, and receive them as Truth in your life. As Proverbs tells you, the Word is life to those that find it and health to your body. (Proverbs 4:20-22)

Notice that Peter’s Mother-In-Law immediately began serving after she was healed. This was a joyful service to the Lord for her restoration and not just menial work. God gives you life. Your gift to him is serving Him. If you are sick, you can’t give your best to God. But that is exactly why God sent His Word (Jesus) to heal you both spiritually and physically! (Psalm 103, 107:20) You are the Body of Christ and he does not want there to be even a hangnail on the pinky toe of his body!

But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her. And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them. — Mark 1:30-31 KJV
