After God created the Earth, animals and Adam, He declared everything GOOD. There was only one thing missing – a companion for Adam. This was NOT good.

In this very brief, and often overlooked verse, God makes it clear that He knows and desires that you have a perfect companion.

It is almost humorous how many trillions are wasted annually in vain attempts to find what the world calls love. And far too often, these relationships end in divorce or even worse. This is not God’s will. He wants to match you with the perfect spouse. He wants to teach you to love like He does. When your vertical relationship with God is solid, the horizontal relationships, especially in a marriage, will be solid as well.

Meditate on Genesis 2:18 and check out the resources below. God wants to be intimately involved in every detail of your life. He knows you better than you know yourself. AND, He knows the very heart of everyone. Is there anyone on the planet more qualified to be your matchmaker?

Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” (Genesis 2:18 NLT)

God is love. He does not have love, He IS love. Love creates. Love desires fellowship.

You are created in the image of God (Love). Before sin screwed everything up, Adam was living in a perfect relationship with his Heavenly Father. The REAL person inside, Adam’s spirit, dominated his mind and body. God is Spirit and was intimately connected with Adam’s spirit. That was the plan from the beginning.

Just like Adam and God were spiritually connected, Eve would be connected to Adam physically. They would be “one body” and together, one spirit connected to God. With two humans in agreement and in partnership with Love Himself, equipped with revelation knowledge, faith and the complete wisdom of God, nothing would be impossible.

When sin entered the picture, that spiritual connection was severed. They were cut off from God’s life and were spiritually dead. Instead of God’s wisdom, they had to rely on their own knowledge obtained through their senses. This remained the case until after Jesus rose from the grave. You now can be spiritually reborn and access God’s wisdom simply by faith in Jesus. That is not just Good News, that is AWESOME NEWS!

There are examples throughout the Bible of God getting involved in the matchmaking business – Isaac, Joseph, Ruth come to mind. But more often than not, we see the dangers of man attempting to fill the need for companionship without God’s aid. That is why I believe Genesis 2:18 should take an even greater role in the lives of Believers today. The world has largely rejected or ignored God’s way of doing things and the results are obvious.

God declares that He will provide a companion that is perfect. For more confirmation, at the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6 and Luke 12), Jesus declares that your Heavenly Father KNOWS what you need and will supply it. Simply seek first the Kingdom of God – His way of doing things, and God will take care of your needs. That includes companionship. Paul in his letter to the Philippians confirms that God will supply ALL your needs (Philippians 4:19). All pretty much covers everything. This requires some trust, or faith in your Heavenly Father. If you are running around trying to score dates and doing everything the world tells you to do, you are not trusting God. Let Him guide you to the right person.

If God has to take you the other side of the globe to connect you with the perfect companion, He will!

If you are single, start with Genesis 2:18, confess and believe God’s Word for you: Heavenly Father, I know that you do not want me to be alone. I thank you for providing a perfect companion for me!
