Naomi And Ruth, And Boaz, Their Kinsman Redeemer

Ruth Bible Story

The Book of Ruth is the story of two widows, Ruth and her mother-in-law Naomi. After Naomi’s family migrated to Moab, her two sons married wives from their new country. Later, Naomi’s husband and both sons died. Faced with life without male support, Naomi decided to return to Israel. She encouraged her two daughters-in-law to go back to their own people. Orpah, one of the two, reluctantly took her advice. But Ruth refused to leave Naomi’s side, saying,

And Ruth said, Urge me not to leave you or to turn back from following you; for where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people and your God my God. — Ruth 1:16 <AMP>

Ruth’s story is one of devotion and love. While Naomi had a pity party (Ruth 1:20-22), Ruth put her faith in God and went to work supporting herself and her mother-in-law. Her seed of love caught the attention of Boaz, who recognized God’s Blessing working in Ruth’s life (Ruth 2:11-12). Boaz acted honorably and with generosity towards Ruth, and he was rewarded with a wife that was admired throughout Bethlehem. And later, they became the ancestors of King David and Jesus.
